What is Nitro Athletics Melbourne?
Nitro Athletics Melbourne is an international team based competition, set to feature both traditional and modified athletic events. It will be conducted over three events - Saturday 4 February, Thursday 9 February and Saturday 11 February, 2017, at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne, Victoria.
A number of international teams and athletes will join an Australian Team to launch this new and exciting concept with all three Nitro Athletics Melbourne events to be broadcast live on the Seven Network.
Nomination Process:
The Nomination Process for Team Australia at Nitro Athletics Melbourne is now open.
It is open to all athletes that have competed at a national and/or international level in the past 18 months.
Nominations will be accepted until 11:59pm AEDT, Sunday 27 November 2016.
Team Australia at Nitro Athletics Melbourne:
Team Australia will consist of twelve (12) women and twelve (12) men, competing in both traditional and modified athletics events.
Subject to final confirmation, Team Australia is seeking nominations from athletes in the following event categories:
- Sprints and Hurdles (100, 200m, 400m, 100mH, 110mH)
- Middle Distance (800m, mile, 1500m)
- Throws (javelin)
- Jumps (long jump, pole vault)
- Para-Athletics Track (ambulant, wheelchair)
The online nomination form requests that athletes stipulate the events in which they seek to compete. This will be taken into account when confirming competitors for Team Australia to ensure the best possible athlete mix is determined.
Eligibility Criteria for Team Australia:
To be eligible to submit a nomination for Team Australia at Nitro Athletics Melbourne, athletes must consider and meet the following requirements:
- You must be a current financial member of a State or Territory Member Association of Athletics Australia
- You must be eligible and free to compete without any suspension or current investigation from ASADA and/or WADA
- You must have within the previous 18 months competed at a national and/or international level and can provided confirmation of your performances in the nomination form
- You can commit to competing in February 2017
- You will actively and positively promote Nitro Athletics Melbourne as and when required
- You can travel and stay in Melbourne, Victoria, from 2 February, 2017, until 12 February, 2017.
- You can wear competition and training apparel (excluding tools of trade and footwear) provided by Athletics Australia (please indicate in your nomination if this may be an issue, we may work with you to resolver where necessary)
- You can compete in a minimum of one track and/or field event each night of the three events of Nitro Athletics Melbourne and would be willing and able to compete in additional events including relays and other like events as reasonably determined by the Team Australia Coach and Captain
- You can attend and are willing to actively participate in a number of promotional events before, during and after Nitro Athletics Melbourne
- You will agree to enter into an agreement with Athletics Australia and/or its nominees setting the terms of your engagement in Nitro Athletics Melbourne
- You can provide approval to Nitro Athletics Melbourne and Athletics Australia to use your image and likeness in any and or all promotional material including, but not limited to, print, online and digital and you grant a licence to Nitro Athletics Melbourne and Athletics Australia to do so.
