The origins of the Marathon lie in Christmas Island folklore and began as a wager between a few Island Hash House Harriers but it has since grown to become an internationally listed event.

Competitors  may choose to run or walk (not accredited walk)   the course  in any event.Awards will be given to the first over the line in each category (other than 2km Walk ).

This scenic Athletics Australia certified and challenging marathon course starts at the top of the island 260m above sea level and runs on roads surrounded by tropical rainforests. All events showcase the unique and beautiful environment Christmas Island offers and finishes in the Settlement area.

Christmas Island is an Australian territory so no visa is required for travel from the maninland. If travelling from outside Australia, please check with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship at www.immi.gov.au for requirements. Virgin Australia travels to Christmas Island three times per week from Perth International Airport. There are also Charter flights operating from Jakarta Indonesia to Christmas Island, please contact the Christmas Island Travel Exchange on (08) 9164 7096 for up to date information on Christmas Islands northern flight charter schedules.
