A 30 minute beach run @ Yorkeys Knob.

A celebration of a 'Roadies' milestone.

Wikipedia reckons: '1000 or one thousand is the natural number following 999 and preceding 1001. In most English-speaking countries, it is conventionally written with a comma separating the thousands unit: 1,000.'

'It may also be described as the short thousand in historical discussion of medieval contexts where it might be confused with the Germanic concept of the "long thousand" (1200).'

Cairns Road Runners reckons: '1000 Likes on Facebook, reached in May is pretty cool and what better way to celebrate than in a manner consistent with a road running club - a run....on a beach.....some friendly banter....and a BBQ breakky!

• Format:

A Roadies teardrop banner will be placed on the northern end of the beach at Yorkeys Knob (near the rocks).  Another banner will be placed on the beach 1km south. The timer will count 30 minutes.  How many sand k's can you run?  The low tide of 1.4m at 5.56am should offer those looking for speed a firmer, quicker track or those looking for a hard time - the soft option!

Entries (inc BBQ, tea/coffee & fruit) are free for CRR members and $5.00 for non-members and open on an individual basis.  Don't let this stop you from getting friends together and running as a team on the day or by alternating k's. 

This is intended to be a social, informal event.  No positions will be recorded or results posted.  Runners are required to register online for insurance and catering purposes.  No registrations will be taken on the day - Rego closes 8pm Friday 19 June.

• Timings:  Saturday 20 June 2015.

7am:  Check-in and issue of BBQ token.

7.30am - 8.00am: The run.

8.00am - 9.00am:  The BBQ.

Are not sought for this event but most welcome to come forward on the day to assist with a number of small tasks.
