2017 Victorian Road Series Team Registration

Elite Men & Masters Men: $320*
Elite Women: $220*

*National Road Series & UCI registered teams do not need to pay the registration fee.
*Club teams that wear club kit only do not need to pay the registration fee.

Benefits:

Team Name Guidelines

To be accepted as a VRS team, the following guidelines must be meet:

- Max of 2 sponsors in the team name

- Max of 20 characters in team name

- No symbols in the name

- Cannot be the same name as a UCI or NRS team (unless you are registered as a UCI or NRS team)

- No 'powered by' used in the name

 


 

 2017 Victorian Road Series Regulations

 

 1. Objectives 

The key objectives of the Cycling Victoria State Road Series are: 

  • To provide an underpinning series of events to the National Road Series;
  • To provide a calendar of events which are of high interest to participants;
  • To raise the standard of competition amongst Victoria’s cyclists;
  • Increase commercial investment into cycling in Victoria; 

 

2. Regulation 

The following regulations must be adhered to when staging a Cycling Victoria State Road Series event.

 

3. Categories 

The following categories must be run as part of each series event: 

Elite Men:  A Grade*, B Grade, C Grade, 

Masters Men: Teams Masters A*, Masters B & Masters C 

Women: Teams: A Grade*, B Grade, C Grade 

*VRS registered Teams may enter A Grade.

 

Riders who are born in 2000 or earlier are eligible participate in the Victorian Road Series.

 

3.1 Category Combination 

Categories may be combined if there are fewer than 20 entries in any one category.  Any category combination will occur from lowest to highest (e.g. C with B).  Where categories are combined individuals entered in the lost category will be awarded series points for their category (e.g. the first C Grade rider will still receive C Grade points).  When categories are combined, the distance requirement of the lower category shall be observed.

 

3.2 Masters Categories
Masters Men Members are eligible to ride in Masters categories only - Masters A, B & C. 

Riders of Masters age, but with an elite membership, are eligible to ride Masters (Masters A/B/C) or Elite Categories (Men's A/B/C). 

Masters A-Grade teams, all riders must be eligible to compete in Masters categories. 

Masters riders who compete in the 2017 National Road Series must compete in the Elite A-Grade. 

The top Masters Women in each category will be recognized in the VRS points and will have a separate leader’s jersey to the VRS. In the event that the overall leader of the grade is masters, the master’s rider will receive the elite jersey only - the next highest master will receive the master’s jersey.

 

 4. Teams
Teams are only permitted in A Grade.  Teams must ensure that all riders in their team are either A-grade in the CV Grading list or are U23 or younger and are in B-grade. Riders who have not been graded must prove that they are equal to A-grade. 

NRS teams are exempt from this regulation.

 

4.1 Team Size at events 

The maximum team size for is five (5) and minimum three (3) at each event.  

Teams are allowed to have a maximum of five (5) extra riders compete in the event. 

Riders who are not entered in the official team must not collude with the team during the race. 

Only riders entered in the team are eligible for team points.

 

4.2 Team Registration 

Teams must either be registered with the UCI as a Professional Continental Team, Cycling Australia as a National Road Series Team or must register with Cycling Victoria as a State Registered Team.  

Teams must register the names of all of their riders and team management with Cycling Victoria prior to racing in an event of the series.  All racing members of the team must hold a minimum of a current Cycling Australia Race Membership or UCI International Licence with International Insurance if from overseas.  Team Management must hold a valid Cycling Australia Membership. 

Teams must provide a copy of their kit for approval by Cycling Victoria. 

Cycling Victoria reserves the right to exclude any team application from the series. 

 

 4.4 Team Rankings 

An overall team ranking will be calculated based on total points accumulated by team members when they race for the team at VRS events.   Any placing taken by riders riding as an individual will be forfeit.

 

5. Grading 

All riders have been graded and are on the Victorian Road Grading list. At the start of the year riders will have the right to query their grade however after the first event it will not change based on the type of course (e.g. hilly vs flat). 

Upon buying a membership all Victorian members will be asked to fill in an online form which will determine your ability category (grade) for the initial race. 

Riders in A-grade in the previous year who gained no VRS point and finished in the bottom 10 in at least two events may be relegated to B-grade. 

Cycling Victoria reserves the right to change a riders grade.

 

5.1 Ability Categories 

The ability categories will be as follows: 

 Men:  Teams (A Grade), B Grade, C Grade 

Masters Men:  Teams (A Grade), B Grade & C Grade 

Women: Teams (A Grade), B Grade, C Grade

 

Masters Riders will be provided with a general and Masters Ability Category if they have an Elite Membership.

 

5.2  Category Changes (Upgrades) 

In most instances, riders will be upgraded upon achieving a specified number of Series points accumulated which may be accumulated over 2 years. 

A rider that is upgraded during the season will retain half their points from the previous grade only to the next ability category. These points do not count towards upgrade (only for the series). 

a)       Only races that are part of the State Series will be used as part of the upgrade points. 

The following table will be used for determining points need to upgrade:

b) Riders who gain 28 or more points in one race upgrade to the higher grade 

c) No points will be awarded for interstate or club and combine events. 

d)  A rider wishing to compete in a category other than that listed on his or her license must obtain prior written permission from the CV Road Commission. 

e) Riders who compete in a National Road Series event are automatically moved to A-grade. 

f)  All first year J19 will be put into C Grade 

g)  All J19 may be given an exemption for B grade under the following circumstances: 

-  earned selection to an Institute of Sport 

-  finished amongst the top-5 riders in the National Championship Road Race J17 

-  finished amongst the top-3 riders in the National Championship Time Trial J17

 

5.3 VRS Champion
After the final stage of the final VRS event the person who has the highest overall points for their grade will be awarded the VRS Champion. 

In the event that there is a tie, riders & teams will be equaly ranked. 

 

5.4 Interstate Participants 

Interstate Participation is encouraged in the series.  Interstate riders will be provided a grade upon their first event entry.  They are required to provide proof of their ability level at the time of event registration.

 

5.5 Downgrades 

Riders in Masters Categories may request a downgrade if they have not received any points in their category over the past 12 months. 

Under exceptional circumstances riders in other grades can request a downgrade. These riders must submit a written letter to the CV Road Manager with proof of results in the VRS. Riders who have competed in at least 3 VRS events in the previous year and have come in the bottom 10 or worse are only considered.

 

6. Field Size (if required) 

State Series events will have a maximum set of 75 riders per grade (excluding Tour of Bright which has a limit of 100) this may be changed further subject to risk assessment and traffic management. Cycling Victoria has final discretion in regards to field size. 

In the case that the maximum field size is met the entry processes will be on a first in, first served basis. This excludes the Tour of Bright which follows the current priority list:
1. Top 10 in each grades general classification based on the 2015 results.
2. Registered VRS teams
3. Riders who have competed in two or more VRS races in 2016
4.  Open to everyone

 

7. Points 

 Points will be awarded for each event in the series. 

Individuals will be able to accumulate points for their own ranking by placing in the top 10 at each event. 

Riders who are leading the VRS for their grade will be awarded a series leaders jersey, they must wear the series leaders jersey at any future VRS events where they are still the leader of the series. Riders may be refused a start in that race if they fail to wear the leaders jersey. 

Riders must be at the presentation to collect their jersey.

 7.2 Points Between Categories 

In the case of a rider moving categories half of their current points (in their current grade) will retained into the new category. These points will count for the series standings only – they do not count towards grade upgrades. If riders have previously upgraded from another grade, these upgrade points will be forfeited from the lower grade.

 

7.3 Team Points 

The overall teams classification teams classification will be a calculation of total points scored by all registered team members when they are representing their team at a VRS race (excludes individual riders when the team is competing as well).

 

8.0 Club Competition 

In 2016 the VRS will have the inaugural club competition. This is where any points gained by a member of a Cycling Victorian affiliated club will be combined and at the end of the year the top small club, top medium size club and top large club will be awarded the VRS Club Champion banner. 

The category of the club is determined by their 2015 members who hold a racing membership.
