2017 Coaching Courses

Cycling Victoria is pleased to announce the dates of the coaching courses for 2017.

In 2017 Cycling Victoria will deliver 4 NCAS Road and Track Skills, 2 NCAS Level One Coaching Courses, 4 Skills Instructor Courses and 3 Leading Rider Courses. 


The dates of the NCAS Road and Track Skills Course (which includes the Introductory Skills Instructor Course) are:

- February 18th and 19th 2017

- June 3rd and 4th 2017

- August 26th and 27th 2017

- November 18th and 19th 2017 


The dates of the NCAS Level One Coaching Course are:

- 24 th and 25th of June 2017 
- 25th and 26th of November 2017

The dates for the Skills Instructor Course are:

- February 25th 2017
- May 20th 2017
- August 19th 2017
- November 11th 2017 

The dates for the Leading Rider training program are:

- April 8th 2017 
- July 8th 2017
- October 7th 2017

The following requirements are to be fulfilled before the coaching course.

Membership 

Coaches must hold membership with the discipline they intend to coach, including Cycling Australia, Mountain Bike Australia or BMX Australia. A Non-Riding, Social or Non-Competitive Membership is satisfactory for course attendance, post-course coaching hours as a trainee, and coach accreditation.

First Aid Certificate 

Participants may attend a coach course if they provide proof they are enrolled to attend a First Aid course within the near future. However, there is no insurance coverage as a coach or trainee coach until they have formalised their First Aid certification. First aid courses are available through various organisations including:
- Australia Wide First Aid
· St John's Ambulance
· Australian Red Cross

Working With Children Check (WWCC)

Coaches must hold a WWCC relevant to the State/Territory in which they will be coaching. If a state or territory is not issuing checks, proof of attempt to gain must be submitted to the coaching department, and a Volunteer Declaration will be issued for the coach to sign and return.


ASADA Anti-Doping online course 

There are 6 online modules which can be completed all at one time or over time at your convenience. The link for this online course is http://elearning.asada.gov.au/

All pre-requisites for the coaching courses must be brought the coaching course.

The Skills Instructors Course


An introduction to the basics of teaching cycling, primarily focusing on skill development, confidence and safety essential for enjoyable recreational riding experiences in traffic-free and low-traffic environments.

This course is the minimum requirement to become a She Rides Leader and/or a Let’s Ride Delivery Centre/Instructor.

The NCAS Road and Track Skills Course

This course is discipline and event-specific to Road and Track cycling, designed and targeted for beginner coaches who assist club riders to build their riding skills and learn basic racing skills. The course addresses, discipline-specific planning and evaluation, bike set-up, cycling skill development and practical coaching. The course is a two day program is delivered by the constituent state organisations of Cycling Australia.

NCAS Level 1 Road & Track Coaching Course

The Level 1 Road & Track is a coaching course aimed at people who want to coach club level and state/territory championship level road and track riders to develop and advance their road and track technical skills, riding fitness and racing skills. The coaching course addresses generic coaching and its application to road and track coaching, and teaches coaches how to nurture and develop road and track riders. The accreditation allows you to independently plan, prescribe and evaluate road and track training for road and track riders. The work of coaches at this level will be vital in supporting new, developing riders and enhancing the performance of existing riders.
