2017 Junior/Secondary Winter Competition

Junior Competition Rules
The rules and video guide for each grade (Years 1 & 2 through to Years 7 & 8, excludes Secondary) can be found on the web site below. This link is one we suggest you forward to the Coach/Manger of each of your teams. Years 3 & 4 – Mini Sticks
6-aside mixed played on quarter of a turf. Recommended team size: 8-10 members. Concepts of attacking, defending and basic rules are introduced. Player registrations for each team will need to be completed by Friday 2 June. A link will be sent to the team contact at a later date. The information you will need for this is name, age, M/F, school, iwi affiliation, parent/caregiver's email.
Playing days: Saturday mornings
Winter season runs from May 8th – September 1st
Cost per player: $40 per player
Years 5 & 6 – Kiwi Sticks
6-aside mixed played on half of a turf. Goal keepers are allowed in this grade. The rule being you can play 6 field players + a goalkeeper. If you do not have a goalkeeper then you can only play 6 field players. Recommended team size: 8-10 members. Team dynamics, decision making, defensive and attacking concepts, positional understanding and concepts of space are all aspects developed through the season. Player registrations for each team will need to be completed by Friday 2 June. A link will be sent to the team contact at a later date. Winter season runs from May 8th – September 1st
Cost per player: $45 per player
Years 7 & 8 – Kwik Sticks
11-aside mixed played on a full field turf. Recommended team size: 13-16 members. Skills developed are team dynamics, decision making, defensive and attacking concepts, positional understanding and concepts of space. Player registrations for each team will need to be completed by Friday 2 June. A link will be sent to the team contact at a later date. Playing days: Tuesdays (TBC)
Winter season runs from May 8th – September 1st
Cost per player: $60 per player
Secondary
2017 format: 30 minutes each way with a five minute half-time. Points will be allocated as follows: 3 points for a win; 1 point for a draw; 0 points for a loss. There will be two divisions; Div I will be made up of 1st XI teams while Div II will have 2nd XI teams. The competition this year will be monitored to see that we are offering a format that is balanced and competitive, as well as providing a social aspect for those that are non-competitive. Player registrations for each team will need to be completed by Friday 2 June. A link will be sent to the team contact at a later date.
