The Christmas Island Marathon is celebrating its 21st Anniversary in 2013 and we’d like to invite all runners past and present to celebrate with us.

The origins of the Marathon lie in Christmas Island folklore and began as a wager between a few Island Hash House Harriers but it has since grown to become an internationally listed event.

The events on offer are:

• 42 KM Marathon 2.30pm (Open male/female, Open Team 16+)
• 21 KM Half Marathon 3.00pm (Open male/female, Open team 16+)
• 5 KM Dash 4.00pm (Open male/female,  Junior male/female 12-16yrs)

Competitors may choose to walk or run in any event and trophies will be awarded to the first over the line in each category.

The scenic Athletics Australia certified and challenging Marathon course starts at the top of the island 260m above sea level and runs on roads surrounded by tropical rainforests. All events showcase the unique and beautiful environment Christmas Island offers and finish in the Settlement area.

Christmas Island is an Australian territory so no visa is required for travel from the maninland. If travelling from outside Australia, please check with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship at www.immi.gov.au for requirements. Virgin Australia travels to Christmas Island 4 times per week and there is a weekly charter from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia every Saturday.
