Southern hockey’s coaches are looking to reinstall some pride back in the South and are wanting hard-working, committed and dedicated hockey players to join them for this year’s NHL campaign.

The first trial will be combined with Otago Seniors Trials. You can choose whether you would like to trial for Southern NHL, Otago Seniors or be eligible for both.

To be eligible for Southern NHL you will need to be one of the following:

Players of the following associations: Otago, Central Otago, Southland & North Otago
Or a Region of Origin player from the above associations.
*Region of Origin, draft players and IGP need to express an interest in playing by emailing southern hockey hockeysouthern@gmail.comby 7th June.

At the conclusion of the 2nd trial, a wider training squad (18-24 players) will be chosen to train through until the 1st of August where the final NHL team (18+4x non-travelling reserve) will be named.

Triallists must attend both trials and undergo fitness testing. If selected for the wider training squad there is an expectation that you commit to the fitness programme, all training and games.

2018 Otago Senior Trials

At Otago Hockey, we aim to give every age group an opportunity to better their hockey and go further. The National Seniors Tournament is a high-grade tournament which is alongside NHL. Associations from all over the country entering teams. Hockey NZ selectors are there and watch a lot of the Seniors games as well as NHL. If you are over the age of 21 you can also be selected into the NZ Affiliates team which play against other national teams in a tournament in Hawkes Bay the following year, from that you can also make NZ Presidents and go to a tournament in Fiji!

The trials will be with the Southern NHL.
