Event Summary

The 2018 Goldfields Cyclassic will continue as a two stage handicap race across the Goldfields from Kalgoorlie-Boulder to Menzies and on to Leonora. Riders will be racing across some of the richest and historic landscapes of the Western Australian Goldfields. It’s appropriate that this race also boasts as being “Australia’s Richest Handicap Cycle Race”.

RACE LICENSE

Riders must have a racing license in order to race the Cyclassic. A-grade riders must have a full one-year elite racing license. If a rider needs to purchase a racing license for this race they can do so HERE. Riders are required to have a day membership for each of the two days of racing. Packages cor multi-day licenses are available. Riders must surrender their license when they sign in to race.

SHIRE OF MENZIES - MENZIES CLASSIC - CHAS EGAN MEMORIAL RACE
This year celebrates the 90th Anniversary of the running of the inaugural event.  The race will start in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and race north along the Goldfields Highway, through the eucalypt woodlands to Menzies, undulating over 132km. Four sprint sections await the opportunistic rider to try and grab some cash on the way. The race finishes down the main street of Menzies, opposite the Menzies Town Hall.

The race, being a two stage handicap event, means all riders are placed behind the first rider over the line regardless of which grade they set out in.  Hence riders from all grades have the opportunity to gain line honors.

Prior to 2011, only once before – for the Menzies Centennial in 1994 – did the race head North. The current record holder following the 2013 event is Alex Smyth from the Satalyst Giant Racing Team, in the time of 2 hours 32 minutes.

MENZIES CYCLE CARNIVAL - Click Here for Race Information
A chance to meet and mingle during the street carnival. This year the focus will be on the children of Menzies with a variety of kids events. Riders are encouraged to join in the festivities.

MINARA RESOURCES - LEONORA GOLDEN WHEELS - Click here for Race Information
For riders continuing on the second stage of the Cyclassic, a loud reception awaits them in Leonora where the celebrations around the Leonora Golden Gift take place. The main street will be packed with supporters welcoming the riders to the finish line.

This race again will be run as a stand-alone handicap race with three sprint sections set along the route. The race will enter the town of Leonora where riders will complete a lap of a very tight street circuit before hitting the finishing line amidst the festivities and the crowds of the Golden Gift festival.
