Crystal Palace TriathlonSunday 12 May 2019 sees the return of the popular Crystal Palace Triathlon, organised by Crystal Palace Triathletes (CPT). The Sprint comprises a 750m swim in the 50m pool at the National Sports Centre, cycle nine laps of a closed circuit within the park (closed to traffic!) then run two laps around the park, finishing in the renowned athletics stadium.

Swim = 750m - 15 lengths in 50m pool
Bike = 20km - 9 laps of closed road circuit in park
Run = 5km - 2 laps in park

Competitors for the full Sprint event must be 17 or over on 31 December 2019.

Race entry: £49

Entries are also open for the CPT junior triathlon, to be held on the same day (after the adult race). Further details of the junior race categories are shown below.

Race information: Further information and updates will be published on our Club website as they are made available.

Estimated swim times - When completing the online entry form, you will be asked for an estimated swim time. It's important you are as accurate as possible as we set swimmers off according to their swim times. You will have a chance to update your time closer to the race.

The fastest swimmers complete the distance in around 10 minutes, the average time is between 17-18 minutes and the slowest about 30 minutes. We don't mind how long you take but the race runs much more smoothly if everyone is swimming with others of a similar ability and for this reason we will be unable to accommodate requests to change start times.

Race T-shirts

This year we are offering a race t-shirt to purchase alongside your entry.  T-shirts will be distributed at registration on race day.  Unfortunately this year we are unable to offer children's sizes.  The smallest size available is an Adult XS which may suit some of the older juniors.

Novice training sessions

This year we are offering a choice of two novice training sessions both on Sunday 24 March (one in the morning from 8.30am to 12.30pm and one in the afternoon from1pm to 5pm) for those (aged 17+) who are taking part in their first triathlon or just want to learn more.

The training session costs £45 and can be booked separately from your race entry following the link on the race website.

The training sessions will include:

  • Bike session / ride the course, descending and climbing
  • Kit layout / transition / British Triathlon race rules
  • Run session / run the course, learn how to pace your run
  • Swim session in 50m pool
  • Overcoming your nerves and preparing for Race Day
  • De-brief

Junior/Youth/TriStar race information

Entries for the CPT junior triathlon are in the following British Triathlon categories (age as of 31 December 2019):

  • TriStart - 8 years (50m swim / 1k cycle / 600m run)
  • TriStar 1 - 9-10 years (150m swim / 4k - 2 x 2k cycle laps / 1.2k run)
  • TriStar 2 - 11-12 years (200m swim / 6k - 3 x 2k cycle laps / 1.8k run)
  • TriStar 3 - 13-14 years (300m swim / 8k - 4 x 2k cycle laps / 2.4k run)
  • Youths - 15-16 years (350m swim / 11k - 5 x 2.2k cycle laps / 2.5k run)
  • Juniors - 17-19 years (350m swim / 11k - 5 x 2.2k cycle laps / 2.5k run) - this category has been added for the purposes of the London Series. Juniors wishing to qualify for the London Series or who don't feel able to complete the full sprint distance should enter this distance. Other juniors can enter the full Sprint race and compete in the Under-24 age group.

The Youth/TriStar races will be run according to British Triathlon rules, ages and the distances raced. We aim to set courses using the upper limits of British Triathlon guidance and they are therefore at the tougher end of junior triathlon races – please do take this into account when considering entry.

Race entry: TriStart (£15) and TriStar 1-3 - £22 / Youths/Juniors - £33

The bike course for all categories is contained within the park but (except for TriStart) is tough as it involves a hill climb and fast descent on each lap of the park. Please ensure your child is confident and able to complete the course before entering them.

Triathlon England (or Home nations) refunds

All seniors (age 17+) will receive a £3 refund on production of a valid TE (or Home Nations) licence at Registration on race day. This applies to those taking part in the senior event. All juniors (age 8-16 and Juniors entering the 17-19 age group) will receive a £1 refund on production of a valid TE (or Home Nations) licence at Registration on race day. This applies to those taking part in any of the Tristar/youth/junior events.
