The origins of the Marathon lie in Christmas Island folklore in 92 and began as a wager between a few Island Hash House Harriers but it has since grown to become an internationally listed event.

Competitors  may choose to run or walk (walk not accredited)   the course  in any event. Awards will be given to the first over the line in each category (other than 2km Social Walk ).

This scenic and challenging marathon course starts at the top of the island plateaux 260m above sea level and runs  along roads, trails and through Tropical Rainforests down to and along the rugged Island Coastline finishing at Flying Fish Cove.

Christmas Island is an Australian Territory so no visa is required for travel from the mainland. If travelling from outside Australia, please check with the Department of Home Affairs at www.homeaffairs.gov.au for requirements. Virgin Australia travels to Christmas Island twice per week from Perth International Airport. There are also Charter flights operating from Jakarta Indonesia to Christmas Island, please contact Olivier Lines C.I Marathon Course Director for up to date information on Christmas Islands northern flight charter schedules.

Jakarta to Christmas Island is a 50 minute flight
