Brand Echs Yoga Philosophy and Style
Background: As a competitive swimmer, I began the practice of yoga in order to improve my capabilities and speed in the pool. I wanted to prevent injuries through what I thought would be a structured stretching program. Yoga provides so many more benefits than I ever imagined and is the one key element I added to my program on the way to lifetime best times (and gold medals) in the pool at the age of 35! This is not ground-breaking news... other competitive athletes – including elite, Australian backstroke champion Madison Wilson, have also embraced yoga to complement their training to translate to success in their sport.(1)
Yoga Style: I am focused on developing programs for swimmers, other athletes and corporate professionals who may only have the capacity to practice yoga once or twice per week. With background as a physiotherapist, I have a foundation of anatomy, physiology, injury prevention and injury rehabilitation that I bring to all classes to modify for specific needs or injuries. My classes are not of a specific style – generally a blend of Vinyasa flow yoga and Hatha yoga. The classes are designed to create balance within the body focusing on areas of muscle imbalance through strengthening and flexibility. In addition, balance practice and meditation deepen the mind's ability to focus and react, particularly useful skills in competition and every day life.
